How do I start?

Open inbetweenyou.com and sign in with your email address — a six-digit code arrives by email, and there is no password to remember. Then name the person you want to talk with and send them the link. They get their own private thread; you get yours.

Can I use it before the other person joins?

Yes. The mediator will talk with you straight away, and say plainly that it will bring the other person in once they arrive. It won’t pretend to have asked them anything.

Can the other person see what I write?

Not unless you allow it. Each topic has a switch that is yours alone — Private, Ask me or Open — at the top of the conversation and in the console beside it. On Private the mediator isn’t even shown your notes when it talks to them. Words cross in only four ways: a round that reveals both answers at once, a permission where you were shown the exact sentence, an agreement you both approve, or a game you chose to play.

Can I add more than one person?

Yes — a workspace holds any number of people. Everyone gets their own thread and their own switch, and the mediator is the only one who sees all of them.

What language can I write in?

Whichever you like, including Georgian, and you can mix them. Each person is answered in the language they wrote in. The interface itself is in English for now.

Can I install it on my phone?

Yes. On iPhone open the site in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. On Android, Chrome offers to install it. It then opens like any other app, full screen, and can send you notifications.

Notifications aren’t arriving.

Open the app and allow notifications when asked. On iPhone, notifications only work once the app has been added to the Home Screen — that is an Apple restriction, not ours. If you said no earlier, you can change it in your browser’s settings for inbetweenyou.com. The mediator writes at most once a day on its own, never between 22:00 and 08:00 your time, and stops asking if you don’t answer twice.

The mediator said something wrong.

Tell it so, in the thread — it can correct its notes. It is a language model: it can be wrong, and it is not a therapist, a lawyer or a doctor. If it said something it should not have, we want to know: write to [email protected].

Can I see what it remembers about me?

Yes. Open Me in the app: the notes the mediator keeps about you are listed there, and you can delete any of them.

How do I delete my account?

Open Me and choose Delete my account. Everything inbetween holds for you is deleted at once, and leaves the backups within 14 days. What you had already allowed to cross stays in the other person’s thread, because it is part of their conversation; nothing else does. You can also ask us at [email protected].

Is it free?

It is free while we are testing. If that changes you will be told before it affects you. See the Terms of Use.

I think I found a security problem.

Thank you — write to [email protected] with “inbetween security” in the subject, and say what you saw and how to see it again. A person answers within two working days, and nobody who reports a problem in good faith will be pursued for it. Please don’t read or change anyone else’s conversations while looking. (There is also a security.txt.)
